Why is that - becuase he doesn’t like thinking about the future? he can’t envision a world different to this one? I’m very interested in that concept.

I’ve been tracking Sterling’s writing for many years, though I can’t work out where from. It might have been Wired

Bruce says he’s a visionary. He might not sound realistic - that’s because he’s a visionary!

Some exciting keywords from Bruce Sterling’s talk:

Digital manufacturing

Fabricating

Nanowrimo, the National Novel Writing month, happens every November. Aspiring writers are challenged to write a novel in just 1 month, blogging and collaborating online with other Nanowrimers to get the job done.

I’ve been trying to do it for the past, umm, 5 years or so. Usually I simply lack the commitment and focus to keep it going for the full 30 days. This year, I’m hoping to use the month to get some writing done, any writing, just get it out. That’s MY plan. That’s MY novel - just a lot of words, a lot of articles.

I need to write 50,000 words in 30 days, which works out as about 1,600 words a day. Every day. It’s a Saturday, so if I can write more than 2,000 words, it will set me up with a buffer for those days when I don’t get time to write my full quota.

My tools of choice are:
1 - Evernote. I’m writing into Evernote.
2 - Ecto. I’ll publish my completed works into Ecto.

Ok, time to count it. How many words is this? 176.

It’s a warm day October day, 28C on the car thermometor.

I’m trying a new technique for writing today. Writing while I drive. Before you worry that I’m tap tap tapping away whilst navigating through the streets, no fear dear reader, I am but a passenger.

iTunes is hooked up to the stereo system in the car, she is the one driving, and I’m sitting in Evernote here, writing away.

Driving can be relaxing, especially like on a Sunday, today, and without a wireless network connection on this particular computer, I don’t have the distractions which usually hinder the focus and writing process.

I’ve tried writing in the car before, using pen and paper, but I find the pens slips and it is just impossible to write. Using the keyboard allows me to write even as the car shudders and stops.

My battery meter tells me there are 2 hours to go, I know that isn’t accurate, it will run out long before then. Something I’ll need to consider is whether I can actually hook up the laptop power adaptor in the car. There’s likely a laptop car adaptor, however I imagine it’s not a cheap accessory, and there might be a cheaper alternative.
